Before and now

A few days ago walking around a city I had the opportunity to see the construction of a church. It is not very common these days, and not why I came to my mind the book "The Pillars of the Earth", the bestseller by Ken Follet which raged some years ago.

Nothing to see the construction of this church I saw a cathedral, but compare what is that now that more and more technology means we do things differently, (less beautiful, she would call me).



In the field of architecture I like cathedrals, artistically speaking the majestic and see through its pillars, columns, arches, windows and other elements convey the work of the years that have been slow to do them. I've been enjoying some live, the de Burgos, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Toledo, Teruel, Granada, Santiago de Compostela, Sevilla ... etc and some from abroad.

I think that right now could not build a masterpiece like those that were so common to centuries ago and in fact has not done any in modern times, even a church of those features that I love.
Neither cathedrals or churches or homes or major buildings, no parks or gardens.

First, do not do it because now there is another artistic movement that is modern architecture and is characterized by the simplification of forms, lack of ornaments and the renunciation of the classical forms, steel and reinforced concrete materials are main. So these days there is no place for what seems to me "nice."


I like the modern ... but does not impress me.
